DWTS Season 14: A night of almost perfect scores

Last night's final performance night proved Season 14 is the most competitive (and most exciting) season to date. The remaining three couples were asked to perform twice: the first would be a previous dance the couple performed and the judges would help them improve it, while the second would be the freestyle round.

REDEMPTION ROUND

William and Cheryl
First up, the Cuban actor chose to perform the Cha Cha Cha, the same dance they performed in Week One, and they got a few pointers from Bruno. The dance itself was pretty good the first time around, but add in the new-found confidence and determintation to win, and you've got a fierce, booty-shaking dancer couple. The couple received a perfect score. Score: 30

Mark and Katherine
Getting some help from Len, the couple hit the stage with the Paso Doble. Mark pushed his partner to extend and exaggerate every move because "if you want that ten, you're really going to have to extend it". The pair received rave reviews from all the judges which meant they too received a perfect score (and the first time Len gave the pair a ten). Score: 30

Donald and Peta
The couple's previous Argentine Tango lacked the proper amount of content and choreography so Carrie-Ann came to give some pointers. Though Len wasn't a fan of the lifts, each judge noted a vast improvement from the first time around. Sadly, Donald didn't get his ten from Len, but he was close. Score: 29

FREESTYLE ROUND

Lifts, hip hop, no Latin... this is what many of us have been waiting for all season, where those not-so-great ballroom dancers can show how amazing they are on the dance floor in other dance styles. But it looked like this season, most of the pros chose to stick to the traditional dancing style.

William and Cheryl
The routine as a whole was smokin’ hot. It showed off William's swaying hips, it included lifts and it wowed the crowd. William was pleased with his routine and Cheryl was jumping up and down, but that moment didn’t last long. Head judge Len was not pleased at all stating the Tango and Salsa was too predictable. At the end of the day, it looked like a number that could have been done in other weeks. Score: 29

Mark and Katherine

Whenever there's a freestyle and Mark is involved, I expect him to incorporate hip hop. Instead, he surprised us with a 1920s flapper-like routine that started with Katherine crooning out some jazz. Then it quickened to some jiving and other upbeat dance styles that  kept getting fast and more exciting, especially with the lifts. A routine with that much energy, excitement and a variety of content, they deserved nothing but a perfect tens. Score: 30

Donald and Peta
The only couple to move out of the traditional Ballroom dance moves, the pair put on their boots and hit the stage with some country. This routine could have been the worse idea yet, but thankfully he blew everyone away with his two-stepping skills and even had Carrie-Ann on top of the judges table cheering them on. The unexpected dance received a perfect score with Donald's first ten from Len. Score: 30

With the couples' scores so close together, it's hard to tell who is going to win the competition. Donald's performance took a gamble with his country routine, but because it was so different, it may have given him the edge to clinch first place.

The couples will have one more chance to get the needed points when they perform a final number tonight. Each pair has been given new music and had only 24 hours to choreograph, rehearse and ready for their performance. Tune in tonight as Kelly Clarkson belts out her latest tune and we find out who this season's champion will be.
