Toronto show features a revolutionary dance style

Two Snakes Productions is producing its first show Paul & Marie, an original Canadian play written by Roberto Angelini. A comedy exploring the lives of married couple Paul and Marie Gianetti, it is the story of how they risk everything they have been told should make them happy - job, home, marriage - to uncover instead what truly brings their lives meaning. Tired of the nine-to-five grind, Paul and Marie fear they have become what their jobs have demanded of them - wage slaving robots.

In light of this, these heroes turn to each other for salvation and make the brave attempt to abandon their domestic lives and cultivate a more fulfilling future for themselves as artists. With help from loud-mouthed pal Tony Nessuno and the lurid and vengeful Dance Master Michael Knickers, Paul and Marie navigate the world of the arts to find themselves dancing, playing rock and roll and fighting in the boxing ring. In a world where only the preservation of self matters, each character discovers that as frustrating as their journey can be, they would not have it any other way.

Choreography for Paul & Marie has been created by Genevieve Jack-Sadiwnyk. Trained in jazz, tap, ballet and modern, Genevieve really enjoyed laying down the movements for the big dance number in Paul & Marie.

"I think it's a way for audiences to see something spectacular that exists in the mind and quite often I think dance is used to kind of utilize that space," says Genevieve who will also be playing the role of Marie. "So the characters of Paul and Marie decide to go on this artistic journey and Marie specifically turns to dance as her outlet. a way to have her artistic outlet. Dance is a way for her to get to that part of life that she’s been craving for that lacks in her everyday mundane life -going to your job married, coming home, cooking meals for her husband who’s not grateful at all."

In the play, the characters are dancing to a dance style that has been created by a lurid and vengeful Dance Master named Michael Knickers. He has opened his own dance studio and created a revolutionary dance style that he wants to take over the world. While the dance is unconventional, it's fluid and extremely energetic (check out the sneak peak video above!). While Marie using dance as an outlet, Genevieve thinks it's something everyone can relate to, dancer or non-dancer.

"You can see it in the NBS flashmobs and during International Dance Day/Week -people want to have an outlet to just move their bodies and we don’t often do that. I mean just jumping, children jump, adults don’t jump so I think yeah you can say that dance, movement and just moving your body in that way reconnects you with an inexplicable energy."

Two Snakes Productions is a Canadian theatre company co-founded September 2011 by Roberto Angelini and Genevieve Jack-Sadiwnyk. Two Snakes Productions produces energetic performances with politically incorrect content. Two Snakes believes that one’s experience in the theatre should be electric and interactive.
