August Studio Spotlight: Au Set Bellydance Emporium

Au-Set-Bellydance Studio

Located in Winnipeg, MB, Au Set Bellydance Emporium is a studio and boutique dedicated to Bellydance offering many levels of classes. Celebrating its fifth year in business in October, Au Set's classes are small and intimate so that everyone gets personal attention in their training.

Bellydance is great for all ages, fitness levels and body types and with intimate class sizes, everyone gets personal attention in their training. Students range in age from 12 – 70 but younger students are welcome to the class with an adult.

“Bellydance is popular in Winnipeg like everywhere else, but you have to know where to look,” says Au Set instructor Zenobia. “I am trying hard to make Au Set a hub for information on the Bellydance scene in Winnipeg. My students and I go out quite regularly to promote at any venue that can accommodate us.”

Classes are held weekday evenings and include technique classes, choreography classes and workshops in both dance and costume making. No special equipment or gear is needed, just come ready to dance in barefeet and comfortable clothes to move in with a hip scarf.

Zenobia has been bellydancing for over 15 years and has been teaching for four years after taking her teacher training with Hadia. She has also trained with many other of the world’s top bellydancers and continues to study by attending as many workshops as she can.

Au Set recently held its first Spring Recital to a sold out audience and the next recital, titled “Autumn Oasis”, will be held on September 25, 2011. The recital will showcase all the hard work that the students have done over the summer including some new and exciting folkloric numbers.

Learn to Bellydance to get some exercise, to show off new moves to your friends or to just plain have fun! All students are welcome to participate in recital and demonstrations, but there is never any pressure to perform. There are many opportunities for the students to perform in the community at festivals, public demonstrations, at schools, etc. as Au Set is dedicated to promote Bellydance as a fun family activity.
