August Studio Spotlight: Moving Art Centre for Performing Arts

Moving Art Centre for Performing Arts

Moving Art was established 11 years ago in Barrie, ON, as an in-school resource to elementary school teachers, to help fulfill expectations from the Dance and Drama Curriculum. Currently, it continues the well established in-school programmes, while in its five-year residence called ‘Moving Art Centre’, provides a facility for dance, drama, and musical theatre training. The Moving Art Centre is a professional 8000 sq. ft training facility with an in-house theatre space, and sprung floors for injury prevention.

As a performance-based school, dance classes include ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acro, lyrical, and modern. We offer exam options as well as competitive options alongside their technical study. Dance students enjoy performing in the year end recital at Georgian College. Its Triple Threat Programs allow students to study the performing arts while culminating with a musical that incorporates singing, dancing and acting.

Moving Art’s acclaimed staff are friendly and highly qualified. Both male and female instructors work together to develop performers who are well rounded. Technique, safety, and performance are recognizable characteristics found in Moving Art students.

Most recently, students performed at the Disney’s Dance the World Event in Orlando, Florida. Participants dazzled audiences in the parade ‘Ease On Down the Road’ at Magic Kingdom, and then performed again at Hollywood Studios to ‘Jump, Jive and Wail’. Students, ages eight to18, were a great representation of Moving Art in their hard work, and enthusiasm.

With students already preparing for exams, the competitions already decided and performance dates already set, Moving Arts knows that it will be another exciting year!

You can see Moving Art’s Triple Threat Students in Seussical: The Musical as well as Disney’s The Little Mermaid, both onstage spring 2013.
