June Studio Spotlight: A New DAEI

A New DAEI (pronounced A New DAY) is a community dance hub dedicated to bridging the gaps between dancers and the entertainment industry. Tré Armstrong (choreographer and judge of So You Think You Can Dance Canada) and Tonya Burke (certified Canadian Dance Teachers Association instructor) have teamed up to create a safe, fun, positive space for dancers to artistically and creatively express themselves!

The new dance studio offers a range of dance styles including but not limited to Hip-Hop, Jazz, Jazz Funk, Dancehall, Contemporary, Lyrical, Capoeira, Acro, Ballet and Tap. Classes are offered both on the recreational level and in on a competitive level as well as for adults.

In its first year, enrolled dancers have competed at Kick It Up, Move, and Fever, having won numerous awards including first place overall in the 12 and under category, best choreography, most entertaining, and a studio team spirit award. Dancers have also appeared with the World Jr. Salsa champions as well as professional youth orchestras.

Prior to opening the studio, Tré and Tonya worked hard at providing the community with progressive dance programs to support dancers with the desire to enter the entertainment Industry. The DAEI program or The Dance and Entertainment Industry Program, which runs now through A New DAEI, is focused on offering workshops, seminars and master classes taught by industry professionals, all with the primary goal of getting dancers ready for the Industry. This includes auditions, marketing your self, finding jobs, etc.

In the summer, Tré will hold a three-day ON-CAMERA AUDITION INTENSIVE WORKSHOP in Brampton July 09 to11 and in Toronto July 23 to 25 for ages 12+. Visit www.anewdaei.com for more details.

A New DAEI is gearing up for the summer with Camp I.M.A.G.I.N.E., a summer camp for kids three to 14 where they can experience dance through movement, film and outdoor play as well as craft and music appreciation time to ensure they receive the full artistic experience. There will also be eveing drop-in classes for 12+.

On the flip side Tré and Tonya give back to the community yearly with their annual Give Back event, held at Canada’s National Ballet School. This free DAEI of Dance see’s over 500 participants taking classes in a range of dance styles all by their favorite choreographers. 2 floors, 8 rooms, dance all DAEI, this has been a definite recipe for fun! This year, they are asking everyone to donate just $10 to help continue this event next year across Canada, and bring the Tre Armstrong Give Back Foundation's dance programs for underserved youth to more communities around the country!

This year at the Give Back, there will also have an on-line dance-a-thon and talent showcase, webcasted to over 100,000 viewers called Dance It UP! on USTREAM.TV. Dance It UP! will include: a Youth Talent Showcase, Celebrity concert, Celebrity Meet & Greet, global dance battle as well as prizes and raffles to give away.
